From horse-drawn carriages to electric taxis, the book takes readers behind the scenes of a brand that has become both a symbol of Parisian taxis and a reflection of broader societal change.

How did a technical innovation, the internal combustion engine, transform the mobility of Parisians at the beginning of the 20th century? How did a historic taxi company become one of the symbols of modern mobility? As private car ownership declines, what future lies ahead for mobility in the metropolitan areas of tomorrow?

In his book Une course à travers les siècles, Nicolas Rousselet offers a thoroughly documented response on these questions and retraces more than 120 years of mobility history through the saga of G7, a company that has profoundly shaped the daily travel habits of Parisians.

Through G7’s 120-year history, we rediscover the story of a city and a society in constant transformation, looking ahead to the future. With this book, I wanted to share a living testimony to a collective endeavour at the heart of everyday life in France. It retraces the rise of the automobile and new forms of mobility, as well as the successive transformations of our lives driven by technology. It is also an invitation to reflect on the mobility of tomorrow, balancing regulation, the sharing economy, and the alliance between human expertise and technology in the service of collective well-being. Ultimately, this book pays tribute to the women and men who have contributed to G7’s success over the past 120 years, whether G7 employees, affiliated drivers or our loyal customers.
